Narrow Boat, Broad Conversations: Improving Community Cohesion in Nottingham

Earlier this month, we invited organisations from across Nottingham to join us for a trip on a narrowboat with the Nottingham Narrow Boat Project.

We were joined by representatives from Mojatu Foundation, Notts Victim Care, Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Contemporary, National Justice Museum, Renewal Trust, Marcus Garvey Centre and Nottinghamshire Police.

On the boat trip, we discussed all things community cohesion and how we can work together more closely in order to create a more inclusive and welcoming City.

We even got the chance to steer the boat and operate the locks!

The trip provided a calm atmosphere for open discussion around barriers to working cohesively and brainstorming on what we can do to break those barriers down.

We came away from the meeting with lots to think about – we look forward to future narrowboat trips on the canal.
