Living in Lenton
The aim is to ensure that residents are kept up to date of progress and are able to build their confidence and skills to have a say in what support and activities they’d like to see as they settle into their new homes. Over the next year Communities Inc will be working with Nottingham City Homes, Dunkirk and Lenton Partnership Forum and Tommys (Thomas Helwys Baptist Church) on a number of activities including skills training, practical workshops and community lunches.
We have started delivering training for local people and launched our first newsletter (in conjunction with Tommys) with our first community lunch due to be announced shortly.
We have met with local groups as well as the University of Nottingham to look at how they can play a role in dealing with some of the issues and concerns that have arisen as a result of having a large number of students in the area. We have continued to keep in touch with a number of local residents and attended events and activities organised by other local agencies such as a recent fun day.
Current suggestions for future activities include gardening, social media and IT workshops.
We are also looking for more local people that might want to get involved in a local action group to ensure their voices get heard during the rest of the project, please contact Shamsher to register your interest.
Now that the new homes are nearing completion, things are starting to gather pace with Training, Mentoring & Capacity building, taking place alongside a programme of events to promote social interaction.
We still however want to hear from residents regarding:
1. What you think of any activities you have attended?
2. What else you’d like to see happening?
3. Getting more involved in the delivery and future direction of the project
To get involved in the project and tell us your suggestions, please email Shamsher on shamsher@communitiesinc.org.uk or call 0n 0115 910 1469
