Living in Lenton
Nottingham Flats Redevelopment & Community Project
Project Highlight
Communities Inc was awarded funding from People’s Health Trust, using money raised by Health Regard through The Health Lottery, to deliver a two-year project in the Lenton Flats area of Nottingham. Living in Lenton is focused on supporting residents through the demolition of the old flats and the construction of new homes on the same site.
The project works closely with local residents and tenants to keep them updated on progress and to help them build confidence and skills, ensuring they have a voice in shaping the support, activities, and community services they want as they settle into their new homes.

Over the course of the project, Communities Inc has partnered with Nottingham City Homes, Dunkirk and Lenton Partnership Forum, and Tommys (Thomas Helwys Baptist Church) to deliver a range of activities, including skills training, practical workshops, and community lunches. The first newsletter has already been launched in collaboration with Tommys, and the inaugural community lunch will be announced shortly.
We also engaged with local groups and the University of Nottingham to address concerns around the impact of the large student population in the area. Communities Inc continues to maintain regular contact with residents and participates in events organised by other local agencies, such as recent community fun days.
Current suggestions from residents for future activities had included gardening, social media, and IT workshops. We also sought more local people to join a resident action group, ensuring their voices were heard in shaping the remaining work of the project.
As the new homes neared completion, the project entered a phase where training, mentoring, and capacity building took place alongside events designed to promote social interaction and community cohesion.
We continued to hear from residents about:
⦿ What they thought of activities they had attended
⦿ What else they would like to see happening in the community
⦿ Opportunities to get more involved in the delivery and future direction of the project
