Volunteering with Communities Inc: My Experience Supporting Community Safety in Nottingham

Elvis S, Volunteer

Volunteering with Communities Inc has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As someone who cares about building safer and more inclusive communities, I wanted to give my time to a local organisation making a real difference in Nottingham.

One of the highlights of my volunteering has been taking part in the Stand By Me bystander intervention training. The training taught me practical skills to safely step in when someone is at risk, whether it’s preventing harassment, supporting someone experiencing harm, or de-escalating potentially dangerous situations. It wasn’t just theory—through hands-on scenarios, I gained confidence to act in real-life situations.

Alongside the training, I helped at community events like the Wellbeing Fair and Freshers’ Fair, where I welcomed attendees, shared resources, and connected people to local support networks. I met students, community members, and other volunteers who were all committed to making Nottingham safer and more supportive. Every conversation, no matter how small, felt meaningful.

Volunteering with Communities Inc isn’t just about giving time—it’s about learning, growing, and being part of a movement that challenges hate, promotes equality, and builds stronger communities. For anyone looking for volunteer opportunities in Nottingham, especially in the areas of community safety, inclusion, and bystander intervention, I couldn’t recommend it more.

Every activity leaves you feeling inspired, connected, and proud of the difference you’re making.

If you’re ready to make a real impact, volunteering with Communities Inc is the place to start.
